  • Last Day by Genevieve Swanson

Loosely inspired by the works of Samuel Beckett, Last Day is a satirical take on climate nihilism. Consumerism and late stage capitalism has led the earth into landfill dystopia that is no longer inhabitable. The play focuses on Barbie and Richie who are trying their best to make their last day a happy one. Technology, shopping, and visits from the delivery boy can only do so much to distract from the grim reality that today is the last one. Last Day will be part of Rhino Fest this June 3rd and 4th.

  • The Wish: Reading by The Wish Collective

Written by The Wish Collective, The Wish is an activist play written in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The Wish Collective had the goal to have live readings of their play in every state across the U.S. I was honored to direct the Illinois reading. Furthermore, with Pocket Theatre VR we were able to record the reading in 360 and make it available for public viewing on YouTube.

  • Spit Me Out by Genevieve Swanson

This piece, shot in 360, is a virtual theatre piece set to a poem written by myself. I wrote the poem Spit Me Out from the perspective of running into an old love. The reader follows the speaker recall the small moments, regrets, and anger associated with the old relationship. This piece was produced by Pocket Theatre VR.

  • Clearing by Beth Hyland

This social satire highlights five women working at the athleisure store, LaLaLea. It is a dark coming of age story that addresses toxic positivity, the pressures young women put on one another, and the poisonous side of “self-help” culture. As part of the spring Lab series at The Theatre School, Clearing will perform in late May of 2022. Read my Grappler interview to learn more about the process.

  • Overpass by Julia Specht

Two siblings sit on a couch and talk about death. Then, one ghost sibling and one living sibling sit in a McDonald’s bathroom talking about life. This hilariously raw play looks at the absurdity of having a body and how the people in your life can make it worth living. Overpass was performed in late February at The Theatre School as part of the winter quarter Prototypes Festival.

  • Aviary by Genevieve Swanson

A movement piece set to the music of Eryn Allen Kane, Aviary follows a young woman, Avery, struggling with addiction, depression, and love. The piece adheres to the two EPs’ plot structure through dance, movement, and two performers acting as Avery’s inner self. Aviary was performed at The Theatre School as part of the fall Prototypes festival in 2019.
